Art Nouveau era silver sewing set in solid argent 800 dating from 1900–1910, comprising four intricately chased tools, a needle case, and a case with brown marbled leather and white silk lining bearing the maker’s mark Noël Brenas, France, dimensions 15 × 8 × 2 cm, in good condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Magnificent and complete sewing set in solid silver, in Art Nouveau / Electric style (several crab hallmarks visible, notably on the needle case). Presented in its original brown marbleized leather box, adorned with a gilded frieze made with a small iron stamp.
The inside of the lid in white silk bears the printed mark of the original goldsmith-jeweler:
“NOËL BRENAS - Goldsmith in LE PUY.”
The set comprises 4 tools superbly chased with scrolls, foliage and architectural motifs (Gothic on the base):
• A pair of scissors with blades in steel that are well sharpened and handles in silver richly decorated.
• A silver thimble, vermeil interior (golded), adorned with a magnificent frieze of cathedral/stylized monuments on its base.
• A complete needle case with its original cap, with fluted and foliate decorations, bearing its official French hallmarks.
• A threader (passe-ruban) finely engraved with floral motifs.
• A sewing punch (or needle) with a chased silver handle and a steel tip.
Condition:
Tools: Excellent overall condition. The silver bears a very beautiful period patina (slight natural oxidation that highlights the reliefs, cleanable if desired). No major deformation. The scissors function perfectly.
Casket: Good overall condition for its age, functional clasp. Normal signs of wear on the exterior leather. The silk lining is intact with a fresh appearance of the manufacturer’s mark.
