Turnbull & Young silver pocket watch for men, from 1850–1900, with automatic movement, a 50 mm silver case, white enamel dial and a yellow gold band, in reasonably worn condition with a non-repainted dial.
Description from the seller
Private collection for sale: a characterful and authentic silver pocket watch from the renowned Scottish watchmaker/jeweller Turnbull & Young of Glasgow. This watch is a beautiful example of 19th-century craftsmanship and a piece of jewelry for the collector. With admission tickets to equestrian events.
Features:
Private collection: Turnbull & Young, Glasgow
Material: Solid silver case (with British silver fineness marks on the inside).
Dial: Classic white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and a separate small seconds hand at the 6 o'clock position.
Condition: The dial is in very neat condition without cracks. Glass is broken. The case has a beautiful patina that emphasizes the age of the watch.
Details: Equipped with the original hands and a sturdy lug/jewel ring. One hand is missing.
Although the movement is gilded, the blue screws you see are not painted. They gained their color by being heated very precisely to a specific temperature (thermally blued), which also makes them harder and more corrosion-resistant.
Watch runs well. Needs cleaning. 5 cm wide, no key.
