Hans Reichel's Cahier de Gurs, a French-language, numbered hardback facsimile of his Gurs sketchbook published by Éditions Artel Genève in 1974, containing 12 pages and 42 color watercolours, with slipcase, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
An exclusive art publication, "Cahier de Gurs" from 1974, published by Éditions Artel in Geneva, represents the complete facsimile of the sketchbook of German-French avant-garde painter Hans Reichel. The set features 42 color watercolor reproductions, which the artist painted during his internment in the French concentration camp of Gurs in 1941–1942. This volume was published in a limited run of 1,000 copies; this specific specimen bears the low number 516 and includes a postface by art historian Jacques Lassaigne.
The set is housed in its original chemise folder and solid cardboard slipcase with a fine linen texture and gilt title lettering on the spine. The pages containing the text and rich watercolors are in excellent, clean condition, entirely free of any yellowing or foxing. The outer protective slipcase shows minor period wear and patina along the edges, which does not compromise its structural integrity or overall aesthetic value. This is a powerful documentary and artistic item, making it an excellent investment opportunity for collectors of 20th-century modern graphic art.
The book will be very carefully packaged and shipped promptly via a reliable international courier.
