Description from the seller

Paleolithic Chopping Tool of Quartz – ca. 1,000,000 years old –
Mauritania

Description: an exceptionally old and fascinating prehistoric artifact. It concerns an early Paleolithic chopping tool, crafted by an early form of Homo erectus. This extremely early tool is estimated to be no less than 1,000,000 years old.

The small chopper is made of fine, glossy quartz and originates from the well-known region around Akjoujt in Mauritania. Archaeological research suggests that with this type of tool both the core (as the hammering tool) and the struck flakes (as cutting tools) were used. The piece has a beautiful, authentic desert patina that testifies to its immense age.

The object was purchased at the time via the international auction platform Catawiki (lot number 26905635) from the top seller stoneage-to-spaceage..
