Description from the seller

Beautiful oval Cousances Doufeu enameled cast-iron casserole in red, large 12-liter capacity, made in France.

This piece bears several original marks: “COUSANCES” on the lid knob, “Made in France,” “12 LIT” and “Patent” under the lid, as well as the number 12 under the pot. It is an emblematic model of the Cousances house, the former French die-casting enameled iron manufacturer located in Cousances-les-Forges, in the Meuse. The Cousances brand is especially sought after by lovers of traditional French cuisine and beautiful vintage objects. It was acquired by Le Creuset in 1957, which explains why some Cousances pieces today are associated with the Le Creuset universe while retaining their own identity.

The Doufeu model is one of the most interesting in the brand. Its hollow lid can receive cold water or ice during cooking. This system promotes condensation inside the casserole, allowing preparations to stay moist and regularly basted. It is an old, ingenious design highly appreciated for slow cooking: braised meats, family dishes, daubes, stews, poultry, glazed vegetables, etc.

The casserole presents a beautiful glossy red color, with the typical gradient of vintage enameled cast iron productions. Its oval shape and very large 12-liter capacity make it an imposing piece, both decorative and functional. It will find its perfect place in a country kitchen, a bistro-style decor, a collection of French enameled cast iron, or for culinary use.

Vintage condition with visible signs of use. The exterior remains decorative and very presentable, with a nice overall shine. There are signs of wear, a few small enamel chips on the rims and handles, and an interior patina from use. The lid is present, with its original knob marked Cousances.

Old item sold as-is, in accordance with the photos. A beautiful, authentic French piece, heavy and high quality, ideal for a collector, an enthusiast of traditional cuisine, or vintage decoration.
