- Inscriptions: Obverse: value in Sinhala and Tamil with “ONE RUPEE · 1963” at the bottom, surrounded by vegetal ornaments. Reverse: heraldic lion with sword inside the central circle, crowned above and with the legend “CEYLON” on a ribbon below.
- Grade: MS64 (NGC).
Nickel 1 Rupee coin with a design representing the national identity of Ceylon after independence, highlighting on the reverse the lion armed with a sword, a traditional symbol of the country, surrounded by a circular frame with radial details and crowned at the top. The obverse features a multilingual composition with the value in Sinhala, Tamil and English, accompanied by ornamental elements inspired by vegetation. The specimen shows high preservation, with good original luster, relatively clean fields and well-defined reliefs, with slight contact marks in line with its grade. This issue reflects the assertion of national symbols and the cultural diversity of the country in the post-independence era.
