Updated edition 2023
Personal acquisition in 2023
Signed by the author on the occasion of the presentation of his updated work for its 2023 release with a site-specific on-site caricature drawing: A gorilla, at the time of my purchase of the volume at the Taschen Brussels store, Grand-Place du Sablon, 35 - 1000 Brussels. Having already other copies of this magnificent art book, this one offered for sale has never been consulted, opened, leafed through, or stained and is new in origin with no creases. Therefore, I will include reading gloves with its shipment to avoid stains and marks during handling.
Due to its personalization with an original drawing and its autograph, it is a unique work.

About the artist /

Walton Ford, born in 1960, first studied cinema at the Rhode Island School of Design, before realizing that he was meant for painting. For twenty-five years, he has created large-format watercolors imagined as narratives. His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, including several solo shows, such as at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin or the Brooklyn Museum in New York.

About this work /

At first glance, Walton Ford's extremely detailed large-format animal watercolors recall the natural history plates illustrated in the 19th century by John James Audubon and Edward Lear. But when looked at more closely, one discovers a complex universe with troubling anthropomorphism, full of symbols, biting humor, and references to the “dramatization” of traditional natural history.

About the author /

Bill Buford is a full-time writer for The New Yorker. He has also been a founding editor of Granta and is the author, among other works, of Among the Thugs and Heat: An Amateur’s Adventures as a Kitchen Slave. He lives in New York with his wife and their two sons.
Edition: Multilingual (German, English, French)
