Bronze sculpture titled Centauro - Il Giovane, produced by Fonderia Artistica Chiurazzi in Italy, in good condition, measuring 70.5 cm high by 41 cm wide by 23 cm deep, weight 14.3 kg, unsigned.
Description from the seller
Bronze sculpture depicting a centaur known as "the Young". This work, originally dating to the first half of the 18th century, was accompanied by another sculpture, "the Old". In addition to being carved as if to stand together, since they seem to gaze at each other, the two figures were meant to represent the human disposition toward love: the old man, with hands placed behind his back, looks back, while the young man smiles and raises his arm in a gesture of boldness. Subsequently reproduced using the lost-wax casting technique, among the most well-known reproductions are certainly those from the Chiurazzi Artistic Foundry.
The Centaurs, according to Greek mythology, were beings half man and half horse, sons of Ixion and Nephele. They were known for being incorrigible drinkers and lovers of pleasure.
The work is reproduced from a cast of the original made at the end of the 20th century by a historic foundry in Naples.
Dimensions: 70.5×41×23 cm
Weight: 14.3 kg
