Description from the seller

Seal and counter-seal of Étienne de Warelles, abbot of Saint-Ghislain (1317-1366)

Rare set consisting of a fragment of a medieval wax seal in brown wax accompanied by its counterseal in green wax, preserved with their old attachments.
The main seal depicts the abbot standing beneath Gothic architecture, while the counter-seal bears his coat of arms. Identified as that of Étienne de Warelles, abbot of the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Ghislain in the 14th century (1317-1366).

Historical piece originating from a vanished document, a witness to medieval monastic administration in the former Low Countries.

Fragmentary condition commensurate with age, with wear and losses.

The photos are an integral part of the object descriptions and complement their presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to guarantee fast and secure delivery.
