Three Chinese hardstone carvings from the early 20th century, comprising an agate elephant, a pale celadon jade rectangular plaque with inscriptions, and a pierced jade pendant, each about 5 cm, in good condition and authentic.
Description from the seller
Fascinating lot consisting of three exquisite Chinese carvings made in natural hardstones (jade and agate), celebrating craftsmanship and traditional Chinese iconography. The lot includes:
1 Jadeite Elephant: A splendid sculpture depicting an elephant, a symbol of strength, wisdom, and good fortune in Chinese culture. The carving magnificently exploits the natural shades of the agate, with tones ranging from translucent milky white to warm honey/orange veining.
2 Rectangular Jade Plaque with Inscriptions: A refined plaque in jade (light white/celadon color). The front features a finely carved scene with figures and bats (a symbol of happiness), while the back is enriched by an elegant inscription in calligraphic Chinese characters.
3 Carved Jade Pendant: A pierced celadon jade pendant depicting two traditional figures side by side, enriched with geometric motifs and finely incised details.
Materials: Natural jade and natural agate.
Estimated period: 20th Century.
Origin: China.
Condition
Condition: Excellent overall, with normal signs of time and artisanal workmanship. The stones display their characteristic natural inclusions and veining (see detailed photos for a proper evaluation, in particular image_7.png for the texture of the agate). No restorations detected.
