Description from the seller
Low Sideboard – Walnut Burl Finish – Italy, 1930s/40s
Charming low sideboard (buffet) in Art Deco style, dating from the first half of the 20th century. The piece features a solid architectural frame, recently revisited with an artisan matte coral-orange lacquer finish, creating a bold contrast with the original flame burr walnut burl veneer on the central body. An eclectic design piece, ideal for insertion into modern, vintage, or industrial interiors.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN:
Configuration: The piece offers a three-part division of space. On the sides it features two wide open compartments (without doors), ideal as a bookcase or for displaying art objects. The central section consists of two side-by-side drawers at the top and a two-door cabinet at the bottom, equipped with an internal shelf.
Finishes: The exterior of the structure has been hand-finished in a coral tone. The fronts of the drawers and central doors retain the splendid original walnut burl veneer, with symmetrical grain mirrored to enhance the natural pattern of the wood.
Hardware: Original period handles on the drawers and the central door, made of bakelite or contemporary plastic in amber/honey tones with copper-plated metal backings. Central lock escutcheon in brass.
CONDITION AND DETAILED EXAMINATION (Condition Report):
The piece is structurally solid but shows the condition visible in the photos, with evident and widespread signs of age, use, and the natural movement of the underlying solid wood. It is sold as a piece for conservative restoration or to be inserted as-is for lovers of the “shabby/industrial lived-in” style.
