Description from the seller
Set of 2 (2 of 4) French Lyre Chairs – Solid Oak – Original Garde-Meubles Labels
Gorgeous and authentic set of two French lyre chairs from the period circa 1880-1910.
These elegant chairs are made of solid oak and are characterized by the refined lyre- or fiddle-shaped backs, a beloved design within French cabinetmaking at the end of the 19th century.
The chairs feature a warm, time-worn patina and showcase the craftsmanship of traditional furniture makers.
Significant are the hand-carved decorations on the back rails, the visible wooden pegs in the construction, and the beautiful wood grain that has gained extra character through years of use and natural aging.
Both chairs still carry their original French Garde-Meubles storage and transport labels on the underside. Such labels are rarely preserved and form an attractive provenance element for collectors and enthusiasts of authentic French furniture.
The chairs are in a fair antique condition with normal signs of use appropriate for their age and usage.
No modern reproductions, but original pieces with an authentic appearance.
Because of their elegant form, these chairs are especially suitable as:
- Statement piece in a hall or entry
- Decorative chairs beside a fireplace
- Bedroom or dressing room chairs
- Interior projects in French or rural style
- Collection of antique seating furniture
Origin: France
Period: circa 1880-1910

Remark: original Garde-Meubles transport/storage labels present
A atmospheric and decorative set with character, history and an authentic French look that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
