Description from the seller

Argentina

Harry Grant Olds: Buenos Aires - La Boca.

Possible silver gelatin or collodion print. Format about 19.5 x 24 cm.

On the reverse with the photographer's stamp.

Edges slightly bent inward, on the reverse somewhat brownish.

Harry Grant Olds (Sandusky County, 1869 - Buenos Aires, 1943) was a photographer from the United States who emigrated to South America to work in Chile and Argentina. He was born in Sandusky County, Ohio, where he began his career as a photographer in Bishop's studio. In 1894 he teamed up with Albert Willman, with whom he opened several photo studios. On August 5, 1900, Olds took his first negative in Buenos Aires. As a pioneer of a portrait style unique for that era, he opened a studio that quickly gained fame. The businesses in the Argentine capital were so successful that, instead of returning to the United States as originally planned, two years later he brought his girlfriend from Mansfield, Rebecca Jane Rank, who arrived on May 12; they were married immediately.
