Description from the seller
Chicago, Chicago is one of Yasuhiro Ishimoto’s most important photobooks. The images were taken in Chicago between 1959 and 1961, and bring together more than 200 black-and-white photographs of the city’s architecture, streets and people.
Ishimoto studied at the Institute of Design in Chicago, formerly known as the New Bauhaus, and his photographic vision reflects a strong modernist sensibility. Through sharp framing, geometric composition, rhythm and contrast of light, he captured the urban structure and everyday life of Chicago with remarkable clarity.
The book includes a preface by Shuzo Takiguchi and layout design by Yusaku Kamekura. It is regarded as a major achievement in postwar Japanese photography and one of Ishimoto’s defining works.
