Takuma Nakahira – Burn / Overflow, a 496-page softcover catalog published in 2024 by Live Art Books / National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, in Japanese with English essays, in as-new condition.
Description from the seller
Description:
Takuma Nakahira (1938–2015) co-founded Provoke magazine in 1968 alongside
Daido Moriyama and Koji Taki. His debut photobook For a Language to Come (1970)
is now one of the most collected Japanese photobooks in the world.
In 1977, Nakahira suffered severe amnesia following a health crisis — effectively
erasing his memory, his critical writings, and his theoretical framework. What
followed was a second career: slower, clearer, more documentary, shot in Yokohama
and Okinawa. Two completely distinct bodies of work. One photographer.
This 496-page catalog, published by the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
(MOMAT) for his 2024 retrospective, is the most complete survey of his career
ever produced. It covers both phases in full, with scholarly essays by
Matthew S. Witcovsky (Art Institute of Chicago) and leading Japanese critics.
