BELGIUM. 50 Francs. 1960. Baudouin I (1951-1993)
- Value: 50 Francs.
- Reign: Baudouin I (1951-1993).
- Year: 1960.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: BALDVINVS · FABIOLA · MCMLXII, with the facing portraits of the future spouses. Reverse: BELGIUM · 50 F, with the crowned coats of Belgium and Spain.
- Grading: MS65 (NGC).
50 Francs silver commemorative coin issued by Belgium to celebrate the royal wedding of Baudouin I and Fabiola de Mora y Aragón. The obverse presents the superimposed busts of the future sovereigns looking to the left, rendered in a realistic and elegant style characteristic of mid-20th-century European medallic art. The Latin inscription and the date in Roman numerals reinforce the solemn character of the issue. The reverse shows the crowned shields of Belgium and Spain united symbolically, accompanied by the denomination 50 Francs and surrounded by laurel branches. The specimen preserves an extraordinary original mint lustre, with fully defined relief and very clean fields, showing only minor contact marks compatible with its high grade MS65. This coin commemorates one of the most significant events in contemporary Belgian monarchy and symbolizes the dynastic union between the Belgian Royal House and the Spanish aristocracy.
