Description from the seller
Japanese-style black-lacquered wall corner bracket
Elegant wall-mounted corner bracket made of wood lacquered in black and decorated with hand-painted oriental motifs.
The piece features a characteristic Japoniste decoration consisting of birds, fish and floral motifs on gilded medallions, an aesthetic highly valued during the last third of the 19th century following the influence of Japanese art in Europe. Its cut silhouette and wavy profile clearly reflect the decorative sensibility of the Japonisme movement and the Victorian Aesthetic Movement.
Designed to be placed in the corner of a room, this bracket was used to display small decorative objects, porcelains, clocks or vases, constituting a common element in refined interiors of the late 19th century.
Constructed in multiple assembled pieces, the original small hinges and the type of lacquered decoration are fully compatible with a dating between 1880 and 1900.
Condition in keeping with its age, showing wear, occasional loss of lacquer and small flaws in one corner, visible in the photographs. These signs of use do not affect its structural stability or its decorative appeal.
Features:
Type: Wall corner bracket
Material: Lacquered wood
Decoration: Multicolored and gilded Japonisme motifs
Style: Japonisme / Aesthetic Movement / Late Victorian
Condition: Good overall with age-related wear
A highly representative decorative piece of the Orientalist taste that triumphed in Europe at the end of the 19th century, ideal for collectors of Japanese-style furniture, Victorian decor or period decorative arts.
