An antique French wall mirror from circa 1800–1850, in a Louis XVI/Directoire style, with a moulded painted wooden frame and original mercury glass, measuring 133 × 70 cm (internal 118 × 57 cm, depth 5 cm) and weighing 17 kg, featuring beige and silver tones and very good condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Elegant French mirror, a refined decorative piece representative of the transition between the Louis XVI style and the Directory period, characterized by its balanced lines, sober elegance, and the pursuit of a more refined beauty after the ornamental excesses of Rococo.
The mirror retains its original molded and painted wooden frame, made with high artisanal quality. Its harmonious proportions and timeless design give it a distinguished presence, capable of fitting into classical interiors as well as eclectic or contemporary decors that seek to incorporate authentic historic pieces.
It stands out especially for the preservation of its original mercury glass, an element increasingly scarce and valued by collectors and decorators. The surface exhibits the depth, luminosity, and soft patina that only old mirrors made with this traditional technique develop, providing a visual richness impossible to reproduce in modern mirrors.
The piece preserves a magnificent historic patina and shows a notable state of conservation for a work over two centuries old, maintaining all its decorative and patrimonial appeal intact.
