Description from the seller
here is an fascinating lot for collectors of photographic memorabilia and micro-cameras, composed of two rare specimens of bell 14, famous subminiature cameras also known as "spy-camera". produced in Japan around 1960 by an unknown manufacturer, these tiny cameras were designed on the model of the famous "hit-type", shooting small square exposures of 14x14 mm on a special 17.5 mm film with back support paper. the lot includes two aesthetic and constructive variants of this iconic model: the first specimen, on the right, features a rectangular, modern line that recalls a miniature SLR camera, characterized by a satin metal shell with the engraving "bell-14", a black faux-leather coating and the two-tone blue and gold front label "bell 14". it is completed by its original soft black faux-leather case with zipper closure and stamped label. the second specimen, on the left, shows a taller, more vertical and compact body in polished metal with black inlays, equipped with a small luminous Galilean viewfinder positioned on the top. it is accompanied by its vintage-era olive-green rigid cardboard case. both items show a beautiful patina of time that enhances their collectible value. the bodies display only minor superficial wear and the winding mechanisms are complete. this is a splendid opportunity to add to your collection two unique variants of one of the most curious micro-cameras from the golden age of espionage and pocket Japanese design. the items are sold as‑is, as shown in the gallery.
