This painting was purchased by my father during a trip with the whole family to Haiti in 1980.
I was also present and at the time I was 17 years old.
It is a typical example of Haitian Naïve art and represents a Voodoo ritual dance.
During the trip we witnessed a Voodoo ceremony in person.
At the bottom there is also a white symbol near the feet, it is a Veve, used to invoke the Loa, the spirits that act as intermediaries between humanity and the divine.
The author signs Alix, certainly from the Port-au-Prince school.
I cannot trace the author precisely as there are several authors from that period with the surname Alix.
The signature is clearly visible in the photo.
The most probable author is Gabriel Alix (1930 - 1998)
