Technical specifications:
• Manufacturer: Underwood Corporation. New York, United States.
• Model: Underwood Universal (Postwar design).
• Year of manufacture: 1949.
• Serial number: 1,921,941 (Dated using the brand's official records).
• Finish: Original textured matte gray paint (Crinkle/Wrinkle finish).
• Keyboard: Spanish QWERTY layout (with original inscriptions in Spanish).
Overview:
Excellent specimen of the legendary American robustness from the mid-20th century. The Underwood Universal was one of the most reliable and successful portable models from the brand, thanks to its smooth typing and structural durability. This lot stands out especially for preserving its factory-original Spanish-language keyboard, with elegant black circular keys surrounded by a chrome metal ring and inscriptions such as "Espaciador de retroceso" (Backspace spacer).
It retains its original carrying case lined with textured vinyl, which features the original rigid handle with the Underwood mark debossed and the functional metal clasp.
Condition:
• Aesthetics: Very good vintage appearance. The rough gray finish shows no major wear or paint loss. The emblems and the Underwood Corporation patent plate on the back are clean and clearly legible.
• Mechanical: Complete and structurally sound. The type bars are aligned and the two-tone (black and red) ribbon is installed. The carriage moves normally.
• Case: The exterior case remains solid, perfectly protecting the machine. The handle and clasp are firmly anchored.
A magnificent collectible piece that evokes the golden age of journalism and 20th-century literature, ready to shine in any collection or decor project.
