Description from the seller

Rare authentic Tuareg Takouba saber from the central Sahara, presented with its original sheath leather-wrapped in red and decorated and its traditional carrying strap.

The ensemble is distinguished by its straight double-edged blade of 79 cm, with longitudinal grooves and engraved motifs. The grip is completely wrapped in dark brown leather and ends with a remarkable layered conical pommel, typical of Tuareg productions from Niger and Mali.

The red leather sheath is richly decorated with stamped geometric motifs, with metal elements and signs of use consistent with its age. The original textile carrying strap is preserved.

The overall patina, the manufacturing techniques, and the materials used suggest production dating from the early 20th century.

Complete set: blade, sheath, and strap.
Beautiful age patina.
Surface oxidation on the blade.
Minor wear and deformation of the leather due to age.
No aggressive cleaning performed.

Dimensions
Total length: 96 cm

Provenance
Private Belgian collection.
