Five-Pounds silver commemorative coin issued by Egypt to commemorate the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), held in Cairo in 1994 under the auspices of the United Nations. The obverse features a richly ornamental Arabic calligraphic composition, accompanied by decorative medallions and the date in Islamic and Gregorian calendars, following the Islamic artistic tradition of modern Egyptian numismatics. The reverse shows the official logo of the ICPD Cairo 94 conference, surrounded by a corona of Arabic inscriptions. The specimen retains much of its original luster, with crisp relief and attractive fields showing light contact marks characteristic of its MS63 grade. This issue serves as an interesting testimony to an internationally significant event held in Egypt during the 1990s.
