Description from the seller
Important antique frame in ebonized mahogany with polychrome decorations
– 19th century
High-quality antique frame dating to the early decades of the 1800s, made of ebonized mahogany and characterized by a refined, undulating silhouette of great decorative impact. The work represents an interesting example of European ornamental production in the first half of the 19th century, a period in which aesthetic research leaned toward elegant and scenographic forms capable of enhancing paintings, miniatures and notable portraits.
The frame stands out for its strongly wavy and sculptural profile, which creates a suggestive play of light and shadow and gives the whole a remarkable stage presence. The ebonization of the mahogany, still legible and well preserved, adds depth and refinement to the object, highlighting its soft, sinuous lines.
Particularly interesting is the inner band decorated with polychrome motifs of orientalizing and floral taste, executed with great care and rich color. The decorations feature a combination of reds, greens, gold and ochre tones that testify to the high level of craftsmanship of the manufactory and recall the taste for exotic decorative arts that spread through aristocratic and bourgeois houses in the 19th century.
The quality of construction, the refined shaping of the profile, and the complexity of the decorative apparatus make this frame an object of notable interest for antique collectors, scholars of decorative arts and enthusiasts of historical furnishing.
Beyond its original function, the frame now constitutes an important furnishing element, ideal for enhancing classical environments, historic houses, professional studios, libraries, boutique hotels or private collections. Its strong decorative personality also allows it to be displayed as an autonomous object, even in the absence of the originally contained work. Ideal for holding a mirror.
The conservation conditions are consistent with the object's age. Normal signs of time, small superficial wear and light traces of use are present, attesting to its authenticity and history without compromising its aesthetic and collectible value.
Dimensions:
* Height: 76 cm
* Width: 63 cm
* Frame thickness: 4 cm
A fascinating testament to nineteenth-century decorative art, rare for execution quality, elegance of proportions and stage presence.
Adequate packing and trackable shipping across Europe.
