Antique silver lorgnette / lorgnon – 835 silver – with original case – circa 1900–1925
For sale is an elegant antique lorgnette (also called lorgnon) made of 835 silver with the original leather case. The foldable hand-held glasses are likely from the late Art Nouveau period or early Art Deco (circa 1900–1925).
The finely crafted silver frame features a mechanism to open and close the two round lenses. The handle bears a decorative geometric pattern and ends in a stylized loop. The original silver hallmark “835” is present.
Such lorgnettes were commonly used by well-to-do ladies and gentlemen at theater, opera, and social events, and today they are popular collectibles.
