Description from the seller
Mesopotamian idol amulet featuring a schematic eagle on a trunk-shaped base, the body stylized with relief feathers. The head is depicted with pill-shaped eyes. An unusual piece in perfect condition. Mesopotamia, Syro-Hittite culture, Euphrates Valley, 3rd / 2nd millennium BCE (2100–1700 BCE). Dimensions: Length 7.8 cm - height 8.2 cm
Provenance: Germany, E.P.L. Gallery.
Previously: liquidation of a major collection; this piece was acquired in 2017 from Gerhard Hirsch Nachfolger, Munich-based auction house, lot 330/1246, from a private English collection
