This medal is the Karl-Truppenkreuz (Karl-Truppenkreuz) for the troops of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was instituted by Emperor Karl I on 13 December 1916 and made of zinc. It was awarded to soldiers who had spent at least 12 weeks of front-line service and participated in at least one battle. On the obverse it bears the inscription "VITAM ET SANGVINEM" and the date "MDCCCCXVI".
