Iconic Vintage Luxo L-1 Desk Lamp by Jac Jacobsen – Satin Metallic Red Edition – Outstanding Design Piece
EN
Description:
Up for auction is an authentic piece of 20th-century industrial design history: the world-famous balanced-arm desk lamp Luxo L-1, originally designed by Norwegian designer Jac Jacobsen in 1937. This specific piece stands out due to its sleek and highly sought-after satin/metallic red finish, making it a perfect fit for both mid-century retro spaces and modern eclectic interiors.
The movement and perfect balance are guaranteed by the legendary spring-balanced arm mechanism inspired by human musculature. The arm features the embossed text highlighting its historical American patent (U.S. Pat. No. 2787434, granted in 1957), proving its absolute authenticity and heritage. Fun fact: this exact model is the absolute inspiration behind Pixar Animation Studios' famous mascot, "Luxo Jr.".
Technical Details & Condition:
Working Order: Fully functional and tested (as shown in the pictures). Original 220V electrical specification, original safety sticker inside the shade (Max 60W).
Aesthetic Condition: Very good vintage condition. The red paint has been well preserved and retains a great metallic luster.
Signs of wear to note: Minor, normal signs of aging consistent with a vintage item. Specifically, there is some superficial oxidation/rust on the heavy cast-iron sub-base underneath the green felt protection (the original green felt is partially loose on the bottom but can be easily glued back). The black rubber/plastic sleeve connecting the shade to the upper joint shows expected signs of material aging, but the shade securely holds its position when oriented.
A timeless Scandinavian design classic ready to elevate any office, architect's desk, or design collection.
