Description from the seller
Splendid and rare complete Eucharistic set, consisting of a dismountable liturgical chalice and its original matching paten. A single lot, of the highest artistic, collectible, and documented historical value. Technical Details and Materials: Precious Metal: The upper cup of the chalice (the sub-cup) and the entire circular paten are forged in Solid Silver 800, guaranteed by the official legal hallmark of the era (oval mark stamped on the metal before 1968). Weight of the Solid Silver: 195.25 grams total (weight certified on a precision analytical balance by BEL Engineering, referring exclusively to the removable cup and the paten, excluding the base). Finishes: The interior of the chalice cup and the mirrored surface of the paten feature the magnificent original mirror-gilding (gold bath), prescribed by the liturgical norms of the Catholic Church for contact with Eucharistic species. The stem, the central node, and the foot of the chalice are crafted in finely silver-plated brass to ensure stability and optimal weight. Measurements and Structure: The chalice is equipped with a perfectly functioning internal screw pin that allows separating the silver cup from the base for thorough cleaning. Iconographic Art: The object is entirely hand-cast and hand-embossed by Italian silversmiths. On the cup stands the inscription of a refined Lily, Marian symbol of purity but also an inseparable iconographic emblem of Saint Anthony of Padua. The base is decorated with ears of wheat (symbol of the Eucharistic bread) and an elegant embossed garland with oak leaves, symbol of spiritual strength. Uniqueness and Documented Historical Provenance: This set is not a mass-produced item, but a unique piece made to order. Under the base lies the original inscription: "Offre Cia Balloni · A ricordo · Natale 1961 · A Don Guido Beltrame". Don Guido Beltrame (1918-2002) was a very important cultural eminence of the Church and the city of Padua. A noted theologian, esteemed priest, and famous historian of sacred art, he dedicated his life to the scientific cataloging and safeguarding of Veneto’s artistic assets, writing dozens of books and academic catalogs. In 1998 he was awarded the prestigious Seal of the City of Padua for his outstanding cultural merits. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The structure is solid, the screw thread is flawless. It shows a very slight and fascinating natural patina of time that attests to its authenticity and era (65 years of history). It has not been chemically polished to preserve the original state of the silver.
