AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare bronze and solid brass box iron dating from the first half of the 19th century (Restoration / Louis-Philippe period). This highly collectible item is complete and entirely original.
The top of the iron features a remarkable chiseled decoration representing an anthropomorphic mascaron (grotesque face) surrounded by scrolls and foliate motifs on a granulated background. The original handle is turned wood and bears a superb patina from use.
The removable rear hatch is engraved with a Vendéan Sacred Heart surmounted by a cross. This historical and religious symbol from the Restoration era indicates a personalized, aristocratic commission. The guillotine locking mechanism is topped by a sculpted fastener shaped like a faun head or a little demon.
The piece is sold complete with its original cast-iron slug, an indispensable element that is very often missing. Hand-chiseled assembly marks made with a chisel are visible on the side of the iron. Good overall condition. No major restoration, the original patina has been strictly preserved. An ideal object for discerning collectors (pressophiles) or enthusiasts of historical folk art. Careful and secure shipping.
