Sévres style - Lidded vase - Softpaste porcelain

Gran Jar with Soft Porcelain Lid, Sèvres Style and Gold Bronze – Gallant Scene Signed by P. Roche – France, c. 1890-1910.
Exceptional central cartouche with a hand-painted polychrome medallion depicting a classic gallant and pastoral scene. It shows a young courting couple in a countryside idyll in an affectionate pose, surrounded by foliage and a basket of flowers, evoking 18th-century François Boucher compositions. Author’s Signature: Signed "P. Roche" clearly on the base of the painted scene. Pierre Roche was a renowned miniature painter active in French decorative workshops around the turn of the century, highly sought after today for the delicacy of faces and the use of light in the garments of his figures.
Body and Decoration: Ovoid body clad in a deep and brilliant Blue Cobalt glaze (Bleu de Roi). The central cartouche and the neck are richly framed with fine filigrees, floral scrolls and garlands in relief executed in gold leaf.
Bronze Mounts: Square gilt-bronze base with geometric pierced decoration, side handles cast in rococo scroll, and the upper cap finial in the form of a gilded pineapple.
P. Roche was a distinguished French porcelain painter and decorator active in the Paris market roughly between 1890 and 1910. He is well known in the art and antiques world for signing beautiful pieces made in the Sèvres style, the famous porcelain of the kings of France.
