Description from the seller

Top hat, black and classic (historically known as a top hat or chapeau claque) placed on its original oval red-dark aged transport case.

Historical Details of the Item
The Hat: This style of men's accessory in silk or structured felt reached the height of its popularity in the 19th century and the early 20th century. It was the ultimate symbol of social status, formality, and elegance for high society and evening events, such as opera nights. The Folding Version (Gibus): Many of these antique models had an internal mechanical spring-driven mechanism that allowed the crown to fold down so it lay completely flat. This innovation made storage in theater cloakrooms easier without mashing the structure.
The Case: The red base that serves as support in the image is the traditional protective hatbox, made of pressed cardboard and molded to the exact shape of the brim to prevent damage during travel.

Inscription and Symbol Analysis
Top text: "Deutsche-Industrie" (German Industry).
Bottom text: "Klapp-Hüte" (Folding Hats / Spring Hats). This confirms that the hat inside is indeed a collapsible model (chapeau claque).
Central Crest: It features the imperial German heraldic eagle (Reichsadler) with a checkered shield on its breast, typical of the iconography of the German Empire (Deutsches Kaiserreich) between 1871 and 1918.

Approximate average box dimensions: 33×26×4 cm
