- Grade: MS67 (GBCA).
Commemorative 50 Rupee coin minted in 1979 to highlight the importance of women’s education in rural Nepal. The obverse features an open book accompanied by Nepali inscriptions alluding to literacy and social progress, in an educational and modern composition. The reverse shows the Nepalese national emblem surrounded by inscriptions and traditional symbolic elements, reflecting the identity of the Kingdom of Nepal under the reign of Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev. The coinage exhibits a clean, well-balanced style, with sharp reliefs and excellent definition in all details. The surfaces retain abundant original mint luster, with bright fields and only minor contact marks typical of handling after striking, fully in line with the MS67 grade. This issue constitutes an interesting testimony to the social development campaigns promoted in Nepal during the second half of the 20th century, when education and literacy became priority objectives for the country’s progress.
