Description from the seller

Refined small sculpture depicting a LuoHan, a figure of the Eastern Buddhist tradition symbolizing wisdom, meditation and spiritual detachment.

The work is crafted in soapstone, finely hand-carved, with a beautiful natural patina born of time and use. The figure is shown seated in a contemplative pose, with a serene and slightly smiling expression, a richly draped monastic robe, and details incised with remarkable precision, particularly evident in the decorative edges of the garment and in the rendering of the hair.

The sculpture presents stylistic features traceable to Chinese production of the early 19th century, of good workmanship and pleasant plastic rendering. Signs of wear, slight surface abrasions and the widespread patina confirm the age of the object and enhance its collectible charm.

An object of great elegance, ideal for collectors of Oriental art, netsuke, votive sculptures and curios cabinet objects.

Period: early 19th century
Provenance: China
Material: manually carved soapstone
Condition: good overall condition, with normal signs of time
Beautiful antique patina
Dimensions: 6.5 x 5.5 x 4 cm. Weight: 98 g.

A small but fascinating testimony of eighteenth-nineteenth century Eastern devotional art.
