Description from the seller
BULGARIA. 5 Leva. 1976.
- Denomination: 5 Leva.
- Year: 1976.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: Христо Ботев · 1848-1876. Reverse: НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ · 1976 · 5 ЛЕВА.
- Grade: PF68 (GBCA).
Commemorative 5 Leva coin minted in 1976 by the People's Republic of Bulgaria to mark the centenary of the death of Hristo Botev, poet, journalist and revolutionary regarded as one of the national Bulgarian heroes. The obverse features a imposing frontal portrait of Botev accompanied by his birth and death dates, rendered with great realism and sculptural depth, highlighting especially the facial features, the beard, and the distinctive mustache. The reverse shows the emblem of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, with the heraldic lion surrounded by a corona of ears of grain and topped by a star, next to the denomination of 5 Leva and the date of issue. The surfaces exhibit an extraordinary proof finish, with fields intensely mirrorlike contrasting with the satin reliefs, creating a visual effect of high quality. The preservation is exceptional, with minimal visible defects even under magnification, fully justifying the outstanding PF68 grade. This issue is part of the prestigious series of Bulgarian commemorative coins dedicated to national historical figures and stands as a notable tribute to one of the most important symbols of Bulgaria’s struggle for independence and cultural identity.
