A monumental 17th‑century Zeeland oak cabinet with ebony details in antique style, measuring 155 cm high, 152 cm wide and 60 cm deep, originating from the Netherlands and in good antique condition.
Description from the seller
A magnificent and monumental Zeeland cabinet (cushion cabinet) from the Dutch Golden Age (mid-17th century).
As can be seen in the photos, the cabinet is made of solid oak and features a splendid, deep patina. The cabinet has a classic, harmonious two-part structure:
Upper section:
- Equipped with two doors with refined carving, flanked and separated by fluted pilasters with decorative wooden drops/pendants. The doors have inlaid, rectangular cushions with contrasting ebony (or blackened wood) panels.
Lower section:
- Two larger doors with the characteristic, geometric 'cushion' panels and a central darkened element that adds depth to the piece. Here too, clean, fluted styles adorn the whole.
Details:
- The cabinet stands on sturdy, straight legs that continue from the fluted corner pilasters. Complete with original or period-appropriate locks and functioning keys.
This imposing piece is in a beautiful, well-worn antique condition with a lovely character and the inevitable, but non-intrusive, signs of age that belong to a piece over 350 years old.
