Description from the seller
Flared cup on a footed base in bronze from the Western Zhou dynasty (1100-771 BC)
Exterior walls adorned with relief incised Taotie mask friezes.
Below, an inscription is engraved in the bronze.
On the base, a frieze of incised relief decorates the outer wall above a swelling.
On each side symmetrically a Taotie mask in relief holds a ring.
Very fine green, blue, and red patina, forming in places thick calcified crusts.
The condition of the bronze has been stabilized by chemical treatment after excavation to prevent deterioration when exposed to air.
Deformation and loss at the neck
Dimensions 21 x 21 x 15 cm
