Published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at Gagosian in New York in 2023, this extraordinary illustrated catalog celebrates the centenary of the photographer's birth. Over one hundred renowned artists, designers, musicians, writers, curators, and fashion personalities were invited to select a photograph by Avedon and describe how both the image and the artist have influenced their lives. Among the participants are Hilton Als, Naomi Campbell, Elton John, Spike Lee, Sally Mann, Polly Mellen, Kate Moss, Chloë Sevigny, Taryn Simon, Christy Turlington and Jonas Wood.

The book traces several periods of his work, including the famous series "In the American West," images from the movement for social justice, classic portraits, and advertising and fashion work.
