Intriguing Fon Bocio stake from Benin. It is a powerful object with a strong presence. The face is expressive and captivating. The gaze is deep, it seems focused on its task. It has a peculiar expression with its enigmatic smile. Its neck is pierced by a metal rod holding two bracelets in bronze. Other metal elements adorn its neck and the top of its head. It wears a gourd decorated with crudely carved animals. Holes are present on its torso and arms; they are used to insert pegs in order to “control” a person or a spirit. At the genital area a metal rod is inserted. A beautiful old and authentic Vaudou cult piece. Circa 1950.
