Ancestor figure - Nigeria

An ancestor figure of the Mumuye people (eastern Nigeria). It is an atypical figure of the Mumuye style, which is traditionally more austere. The scarifications on the face, shoulders, chest, and legs are unusual. The head with button-like eyes, the protruding chest, and the beard linked to the body convey an impression of authority and power. It is the representation of an important person. Acquired in Nigeria in 1997. Dimensions Height 62 cm, width 16 cm, depth 15 cm for a weight of 1910 g. Date probably from the late 20th century.
