Description from the seller
Magnificent sculpture in solid malachite - 10 kg - Eye-like shapes and natural sinuous forms - Democratic Republic of the Congo
Dimensions: 30 x 25 cm
Weight: 10 kg.
Condition: excellent
a sculpture carved from a single, enormous block of top-grade malachite sourced from the famous mines in the Katanga region (DRC).
This specimen stands out not only for its substantial weight of no less than 10 kg, but also for the craftsmanship with which it has been carved to enhance the botroidal formations typical of this mineral.
The surface has been expertly mirror-polished, revealing a hypnotic play of concentric circles (known as 'malachite eyes') and veins in various shades of green, from deep forest green to pale emerald.
The form is organic and modern, making it a design object as well as a mineralogical collector's piece.
Malachite has been known since ancient times as a stone of protection and transformation; a piece of this size is considered rare on the market and represents a valuable long-term investment.
