Bronze nested weights set from Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany, dating to 1850–1900, with a patinated bronze nest of weights housed in a container, measuring 13 cm high and 8.5 cm in diameter and weighing about 1.06 kg, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Bronze weights stack from Nuremberg, diameter 8.5 cm, height 13 cm at the top of the handle. Dated to the 18th–19th century, this historic instrument was used to weigh precious coins such as gold and silver and for pharmaceutical uses. Composed of several cup weights ("nest of weights") nested inside one another within a container. I believe the smallest weight is missing. It features a handle shaped like a bull's head, and the incisions on the lid are the raised numbers that usually indicate the measurement value.
Despite signs of wear that attest to its passage of time, and perhaps the absence of the smallest weight (I’m not certain because it isn’t indicated on the lid engravings), this object remains a splendid testimony of the past and at the same time a valuable antique piece with strong decorative, distinctive, and collectible value. Original ancient patina.
Shipping will be fast and insured for the full value. The photos should be considered an integral part of the description. We do not ship outside Europe. At the end of the auction please check the message center where you will receive photos of the packing and instructions for receipt.
