Description from the seller

This is a nineteenth-century Thomason mechanical corkscrew, made of bronze with a handle that appears to be bone or ivory. It features a bronze bell-shaped head decorated with an emblem, probably the British royal coat of arms, indicating English patent. The mechanism uses a hermaphroditic screw (or double screw) to extract the cork, an innovative design patented around 1802. When open, 27 cm.
