Russian Icon “St. Prince Mikhail of Chernigov with Boris, Gleb, Paraskeva and Nicholas” – Central Russia, about 1880 – Certificate Schloss Autenried
For sale is an original Russian domestic icon from Central Russia, created shortly after 1880.
The icon shows in the center the holy Prince Mikhail of Chernigov, flanked by the holy Boris and Gleb. In the background is depicted Saint Paraskeva; to the right beside her is the especially venerated Saint Nicholas.
The Church Slavonic inscriptions over the Saints clearly identify the depicted figures.

Origin: Central Russia
Dating: shortly after 1880
Technique: Tempera and gilding on wood
Height: approx. 44.3 cm
Width: approx. 38.2 cm
Weight: approx. 2.43 kg
Inventory number: RA 35
Provenance / Certificate:
The icon comes with a certified certificate from the former Icon Museum Schloss Autenried near Günzburg.
The certificate confirms:
• Central Russian origin
• Dating shortly after 1880
• Identification of the depicted Saints
• Classification as a decorative Russian domestic icon
Condition:
The icon is in age-appropriate condition with authentic patina.
Present are:
• age-related defects
• wear and signs of use
• minor loss of paint layer and gilding
The condition is well visible in the photos and has already been noted in the Icon Museum’s appraisal.
The original back with the historical crossbars is preserved. On the back there is also an old price sticker with an original price of 8,750 DM.
