Description from the seller
Immaculate Conception - polychrome plaster - Belgium or France - late 19th - early 20th century.
Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star reviews worldwide.
Large and decorative statue of Mary with arms crossed over the chest, standing on a crescent moon and a snake. This iconography refers to the Immaculate Conception, depicting Mary as free from original sin and triumphant over evil. The blue mantle with gilded stars and the finely worked polychromy give the statue a distinctive appearance. The statue was presumably intended for use in a chapel, monastery, or prayer space.
On the inside there is an engraved inscription in the plaster, including the date 1856. This inscription was applied during the manufacture of the statue and forms an interesting historical detail.
Height approx. 81 cm; in good condition with normal signs of age and use, limited wear to the polychromy and a few small damages to the edge of the plinth. Please look carefully at the photos, they are part of the description.
Shipped with track & trace.
