Saint Anthony of Padua with Child Jesus – polychrome plaster – Belgium or France – early 20th century.
Professionally shipped – more than 900 five-star reviews worldwide.
Depiction of Saint Anthony of Padua holding the Child Jesus in his arms. Anthony holds a lily, a symbol of purity and holiness. The Child Jesus rests on a book, a reference to Anthony's role as a preacher and church teacher. The presence of the Child refers to a well-known legend in which Anthony had a vision of Jesus as a child. The sculpture is rendered in soft colors with warm polychromy and a calm, restrained appearance.
Height 40 cm; in good condition with normal signs of aging and use, light wear to the polychromy and a few small damages consistent with its age.
