Bronze tripod incense burner titled Koro, Meiji/Taisho‑inspired Japanese design, made in Germany, approx. 14 cm high and 16 cm wide, dating to circa 1910–1920, with signs of wear and small stains.
Description from the seller
Japanese Meiji late period or Taisho period (roughly between 1900 and 1925) Koro (perfume burner)
Tripod censer with lid (often designated in the Far East as Censer or Ding), made in bronze and with a strong influence from traditional Chinese and Japanese decorative styles (Meiji period). The piece is composed of symbolic and very characteristic artistic elements:
Upper Handle: The perforated lid (to allow incense smoke to exit) is crowned by a bird-shaped handle (probably a phoenix or crane) perched on branches.
Side Handles: The censer body features two imposing handles sculpted in the shape of mythological creatures, resembling Oriental dragons or Foo dogs (Qiulin).
Central Panels: The domed central section displays relief cartouches or panels with textured naturalistic motifs, depicting chrysanthemums and foliage.
Tripod Structure and Base: The body rests on three organic legs that simulate roots or tree trunks, which in turn fit into a matching bronze circular base.
Approximate average dimensions - 14*16 cm
