Description from the seller
Small Italian Raffia Shade Table Lamp, 1950s
A wonderfully unusual small Italian table lamp, dating from around the 1950s.
This is a charming little creature of a lamp: a rounded, ribbed raffia-style shade with a faceted lantern-like shape, raised on three delicate black metal legs with small brass ball feet. Around the shade runs a playful horizontal band in red, green and blue, giving the lamp a cheerful mid-century accent without making it too loud. It has a lightness and elegance that feels very Italian: decorative, inventive and just a little eccentric.
We originally bought this lamp ourselves on Catawiki and have never come across another quite like it. The original wiring was very old and appeared to date from the 1950s, which is why we estimate the lamp to be from that period. The wiring has recently been replaced with vintage 1970s wiring, so the lamp is working again while keeping a period-appropriate character.
The lamp takes one small E14 bulb. When lit, the shade gives a warm and atmospheric glow, with the ribbed surface and coloured bands becoming beautifully visible. A lovely accent lamp for a side table, cabinet, shelf or bedside, small in size but full of personality.
Condition
Good vintage condition with signs of age and use. The shade shows some wear, small marks consistent with age and material. The lamp is stable and working. Wiring has been replaced with vintage 1970s wiring. As with all vintage lighting, we recommend having the electrical parts checked by a qualified electrician before regular use.
