Celtic bronze bracelet with snake-terminal design dating from the 3rd–1st century BC, in good ancient condition with an olive-green patina and a diameter of approximately 78 mm.
Description from the seller
Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.
A Celtic bronze bracelet of open circular form, made from a broad, flattened band with gently tapering ends. Both terminals are stylised as snake heads, each with a small drilled eye detail and a slightly expanded head shape.
-> The simple but powerful design reflects the importance of animal symbolism in Celtic metalwork, where serpents may have been associated with protection, renewal, fertility, and chthonic or protective forces.
Diameter: ± 78,2 mm
Condition:
Good ancient condition with surface wear, beautiful smooth olive-green patina with earthen deposits and areas of oxidation. The bracelet remains structurally stable, with some age-related surface roughness and minor edge irregularities. The snake-head terminals remain clearly recognisable.
Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for all lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
-> Bronze bracelets were widely worn in Celtic and Iron Age societies as personal ornaments and status objects. Open-ended bracelets allowed some flexibility in fitting and also provided space for decorative terminals.
-> Snake imagery appears in many ancient cultures and was often connected with protection, regeneration, healing, and the natural cycle of renewal. On jewellery, serpent terminals could give the object both an ornamental and symbolic character.
