Description from the seller
Exceptional natural pyritized ammonite preserved in its original shale matrix from the renowned Spiti Valley Himalayan fossil deposits.
This specimen is presented as a matching split pair, revealing both positive and negative impressions of the shell with outstanding detail.
The ammonite displays strong ribbing and excellent preservation of the whorls, enhanced by a complete and natural pyritization process.
The metallic golden-grey appearance is entirely natural and results from mineral replacement during fossilization. The specimen has not been cleaned, brushed, or artificially enhanced with brass brushes or any other mechanical treatment, preserving its authentic surface and natural crystalline texture.
Collected from the Spiti-Tethys sedimentary sequence, these ammonites lived in the ancient Tethys Ocean during the Jurassic Period, approximately 150–200 million years ago, long before the uplift of the Himalayas.
Features:
* 7 cm concretion
* Complete natural pyritization
* Matching split pair (counterpart included)
* No artificial polishing or brass-brush treatment
* Excellent shell ornamentation and ribbing
* Origin: Spiti Valley, Himalayan Tethyan Basin
* Age: Jurassic, approx. 150–200 million years
A highly decorative and scientifically interesting specimen, representing the marine life of the ancient Tethys Ocean and the geological history of the Himalayas. Ideal for collectors of fossils, pyritized specimens, and natural history enthusiasts.
